Wanganui (Belmont Links)
New Zealand > North Island > Manawatū-Whanganui
Wanganui Golf Club's Belmont course dates to 1894, moving to its current site in 1909 after outgrowing cramped inner-city grounds, and went on to host the New Zealand Open seven times between 1911 and 1978. Architect Tom Doak has praised how the layout follows the natural lie of the land, with a rolling front nine giving way to flatter, almost links-like terrain on the back nine. Smaller greens and testing greenside bunkers demand precision, and views extend out to the city's water tower and eastern suburbs.
