GolfWise 4.5

Waitangi Golf Club's roots trace to a nine-hole course built by a Russell-based club before Lord and Lady Bledisloe donated the thousand-acre Waitangi Peninsula to the nation in 1932. After the war, the club merged with the Bay of Islands Golf Club and, under W.A. Kiely's direction, built an 18-hole championship layout part-funded by government subsidy and member debentures. Lord and Lady Bledisloe returned in 1947 to present the Elaine Bledisloe Challenge Cup, still contested annually, and the club has played under lease from the Waitangi National Trust since 1950.
