GolfWise 4.3 (Provisional rating)

Waikouaiti Golf Club was established in 1935 as a gentlemen's club for Dunedin holidaymakers, playing its first course on the property of local mayor Andrew Fellowes, though "the local people were allowed to play too." Early facilities were genuinely rustic - a table and thermos flask in the corner of a paddock served as the clubhouse before bales of wool and canvas took over - and the course moved between several farms before settling on its current treeless, beachside sand dunes in 1963. By its 75th jubilee in 2010 the sand-based course and favourable coastal microclimate meant members could play year-round.
