Titirangi
New Zealand > North Island > Auckland
Titirangi was Auckland's third golf club, relocating to its current New Lynn site in 1920 before Alister MacKenzie - the Scottish-born architect behind Augusta National and Royal Melbourne - arrived in January 1927 to redesign it, completing his master plan within a week and never returning to see it built. It remains New Zealand's only MacKenzie course, and has hosted three NZ Opens along with players including Walter Hagen, Gene Sarazen and Bobby Locke, who called it New Zealand's best course; more recently the Air New Zealand-Shell Open series brought Arnold Palmer, Nick Faldo and Sandy Lyle through the gates between 1976 and 1992.
