4.9 Tara Iti opened in 2015 on oceanfront dunes at Mangawhai that were once covered in commercial pine forest, fully revegetated with fine fescue and native spinifex as part of Tom Doak's design. An exclusive, members-only club, it's regularly ranked among the best golf courses in the world, with a clubhouse - designed in close collaboration with architect Pip Cheshire - built low and unobtrusive into the dunes rather than dominating them.
