GolfWise 4.3 (Provisional rating)

Taihape Golf Club was founded in 1907 as a modest six-hole layout on Beban's Hill, where - by one member's account - the course was grazed by sheep and littered with stumps beside the fairways. As a nearby metal pit gradually encroached on the second green, the club relocated to Sam Shergold's farmland on Papakai Road, where a swamp near the 7th and grazing cattle added their own hazards. Early greens were cut with a hand mower and rolled by hand, a world away from the club's present-day layout.
