Springfield Golf Club was carved out of swampy, gorse-covered ground by volunteer working bees after its founding in 1947, during a golf boom that saw Rotorua golfers seeking new terrain. The tree-lined, parkland-style course is best known as the home club of Danny Lee, the former world number one amateur who went on to the US PGA Tour and LIV Golf, and its holes carry local nicknames like "Ball Grabber" and "Utuhina" that hint at the challenge within.
