Omarama
New Zealand > South Island > Canterbury
Omarama Golf Club was founded in 1974 by Prue Aubrey and Ada Patterson, with nine local families each sponsoring one of the nine holes that opened for play on 6 March 1976. A clever clover-leaf design routes every three holes back past the clubhouse, and different back-nine tees - including converting the par-four 5th into the par-three 14th - give the course fresh variety on the second loop. The Southern Alps provide a spectacular backdrop for what's otherwise a typical, friendly New Zealand nine-hole country layout, conveniently placed for golfers travelling between Christchurch and Queenstown.
