Nightcaps
New Zealand > South Island > Southland
Nightcaps Golf Club plays nine holes on Wairio Road in the former coal-mining settlement of Nightcaps, about seventy minutes from Gore, with the snow-capped Takitimu Mountains - said to have given the town its name - forming a dramatic backdrop. It runs on an honesty-box basis with no staff on site, a genuinely unpretentious, community-focused round in a remote western Southland setting. Despite its modest scale, it's considered well worth the detour for the scenery alone.
