Ngaruawahia
New Zealand > North Island > Waikato
Ngaruawahia Golf Club was revived in 1954 after wartime decline, with members negotiating access to its present riverside site from the local borough council. A nine-hole course opened there in 1965, and architect Harry Dale oversaw its expansion to eighteen holes in 1972. Distinctively, most fairways carry sand or grass bunkering with controlled rough, and the greens are sand-based rather than grass. The Te Awa cycleway runs along the Waikato River beside the course, and a $1.4 million clubhouse replaced the original in 2003.
