Miramar
New Zealand > North Island > Wellington
Miramar Golf Club was founded in Karori in 1905 before relocating to the Miramar peninsula in 1909, and went on to host the New Zealand Open and become one of the country's leading clubs. Its defining story since has been a decades-long standoff with the neighbouring Wellington Airport, which progressively acquired club land in 1954 and 1971 before a 1992 expansion threatened to shrink the course to nine holes - an outcome members successfully fought off. Graham Marsh redesigned the course within its new boundary in 1993-95, keeping it playable throughout construction.
