4.0 Mercury Bay Golf & Country Club has been established in Whitianga since June 1932, following several early relocations before it found its permanent home. The front nine opened in 1960 on a 47-acre site, with the back nine added in 1984 after the club acquired more land from the local council. The par-71 layout plays through natural bush and birdlife on the Coromandel Peninsula, and the clubhouse displays vintage clubs and memorabilia from its near-century of history.
