4.2 Mataura Golf Club plays a flat nine holes twice round for just over 5,500 metres at par 72, with wide, inviting fairways and fine, flat greens. Hole names hint at local character - High Tension, a nod to the overhead power cables crossing the course - while a small bridge crosses a gully at the 3rd. The club has weathered serious flooding in the area, the worst since 1978, and is regarded as a well-organised surprise package among Southland's rural nine-holers, just shy of nearby Drummond's reputation as the region's best.
