4.2 Linton Camp Golf Club sits inside the Linton Military Camp near Palmerston North, built for military personnel and their families starting from a 1960 plan that took a decade to reach its full eighteen holes. Access is genuinely restricted - visitors need to arrange a round through a club member - but the welcome once inside is famously friendly. Rubbish bins scattered around the course for cigarette packets and scorecards hint, only half-jokingly, at how testing a round here can get.
