Hastings (Bridge Pa)
New Zealand > North Island > Hawke's Bay
Hastings Golf Club was founded in 1898 and moved to its present Bridge Pa site in 1912, land initially described as a "howling wilderness of sand and pumice" that took years of member effort - including grazing sheep to keep it in check - to turn into a proper course. A major 1970 redesign by club president Roy Skittrup created the two balanced nines still played today, and by the mid-1970s the club had built a national reputation, going on to host every major New Zealand tournament. Sir Bob Charles and Frank Nobilo are among the notable names to have played there.
