Golden Downs
New Zealand > South Island > Tasman
Golden Downs Golf Course was established in 1946 by the New Zealand Forest Service, about an hour from Nelson, and originally fenced every green because sheep grazed freely across the course - golfers had to hit the ball over or through the fence to reach the putting surface. The clubhouse began life as a Forest Service cook's house, relocated to its current spot around 1986. The 6th hole par 5 measures 646m, reputedly the longest in New Zealand.
