Cape Kidnappers
New Zealand > North Island > Hawke's Bay
Cape Kidnappers opened in 2004 under owners Julian and Josie Robertson, and quickly became one of the most talked-about golf destinations in the world. Tom Doak's par-71 design runs along ridgelines 140 metres above the sea rather than along a conventional links, with fairways jutting toward cliff edges and greens guarded by unusually deep bunkers. Several holes play across dramatic ravines, and two - the 6th and 15th - let a mishit approach vanish over the cliff toward the ocean below. A full renovation of the greens and fairways, done with Doak's Renaissance Golf, was completed in 2022.
